As each school year ends, DBEN hosts a conference for Elementary students.

 

The Elementary Student Conference: Black and Brilliant—formerly known as the Elementary “And Still I Rise” Conference—is a signature event hosted by the Durham Black Educators Network (DBEN) that celebrates the excellence, creativity, and potential of Black students across the Durham Region.

 

 

This dynamic conference brings students together for a day of inspiration, learning, and connection. Through interactive workshops, engaging speakers, and culturally affirming activities, students are encouraged to explore their identities, build confidence, and recognize their brilliance.

 

 

Grounded in themes of empowerment, resilience, and community, Black and Brilliant creates a space where students feel seen, valued, and motivated to thrive both in school and beyond.
