Social Events
One of the primary ways new members connect with DBEN is through participation in our social events.
Many Black educators may find themselves as the only one in their school; by coming together, they are able to build community, find support, and recognize that they are not alone. These gatherings create meaningful opportunities to de-stress and support overall well-being.
Each fall, DBEN hosts a Meet and Greet to welcome new Durham District School Board (DDSB) staff and provide space for members to reconnect. This event blends social time with important updates, including constitutional changes and upcoming initiatives for the year.
Inspired by the Trinidad and Tobago/Caribbean term “Lime,” meaning a casual gathering or time to connect, our Limes (social events) offer members a chance to unwind and build relationships. These informal gatherings are open to DDSB employees, DBEN members, parents, and community partners, creating space to share experiences and foster connections across the system.
