The Afrocentric Heritage Program is an initiative of the Durham Black Educators Network (DBEN) that centers the histories, cultures, and contributions of people of African descent. Designed for students across the Durham Region, the program creates meaningful opportunities to explore identity, build pride, and deepen understanding through an Afrocentric lens.

Through engaging workshops, storytelling, guest speakers, and culturally relevant learning experiences, students are encouraged to connect with their heritage while developing critical thinking and a strong sense of self. The program also supports educators by providing resources and approaches that reflect diverse perspectives and lived experiences.

By affirming identity and celebrating heritage, the Afrocentric Heritage Program empowers students to see themselves reflected in their learning and to recognize their value, voice, and potential within their school communities and beyond.
